    Happy New Year everyone!

As the saying goes, "Be careful what you ask for , because you just might get it" !!

I have just recently become the owner of a 1977 Rhoades Traveler 32. I was looking for a fixer / flipper boat in the Bay Area and was offered the proverbial deal I couldn't refuse. I'm a total sucker for Colin Archer type designs.

She is a beauty , but very tired and in need of a few repairs. The big one? Her Universal Diesel needs some work. Hence , the offer I couldn't refuse.

I'm already living aboard her and getting ready to get into the motor in the next few weeks , but am, of course already thinking about a single masted JR conversion. I wanted to convert my Westsail 32 years ago , but it just wasn't in the cards. I believe the Traveler would be much better suited for a single masted rig given her beam , displacement and nicely cutaway forefoot.

    LOA 32.08 ft.

    LWL 27.08 ft.

    S.A. 581 Sq ft.

    Beam 10.16 ft.

    Displacement 14,200 lbs.

    Ballast 5300. lbs.

    Draft 5 ft.

The other specimens I've seen online have a hatch right where I THINK the mast should go.  This one is clear on the cabin top and has the hatch on deck forward. I would very much like the mast to go through the cabin top if possible , as to not molest the interior layout too much.

Of course being in the USA , the million dollar question is , WHERE to find a mast . I may have a line on one and am hoping you guys could possibly give me a little help on mast specs: total length , diameter , thickness etc. ???

Any help  , opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks!

    Jonny
