Until 2013, junk rig rallies were organised by the JRA, mostly by Robin Blain, Gavin Dalgleish and Peter Manning. Peter says:

"I believe Robin organised rallies in the JRA's early years. Gavin took over, then Robin, then me from 2004 until the AGM in 2012, with Robin's assistance. Robin took over again until the reorganisaton. Our voluntary jobs included: arranging the venues and meals; printing off and sending out the invitations, accommodation details and sailing directions; attending each rally to see that everything ran smoothly and that members got to sail on the boats of their choice. I also took photos at the rallies, and on occasions arranged for slide shows during the Saturday evening 'socials'. I wrote the rally reports and selected photos to accompany those articles ready for the late Fred Barter to publish in our Magazine."

Following amendments to the JRA Constitution agreed at the December 2012 Special General Meeting, rallies and junkets (mini-rallies) are organised by members rather than the Association. From here on the JRA will not, for insurance reasons, accept responsibility for the organisation of rallies/junkets, howsoever named, or the consequences of such. The JRA's Sailing Secretary can offer advice and help with planning and safety issues: click here to download our Guidance on Rallies and Sailing Services (pdf, 836 Kb).

The function of rallies/junkets is unchanged: to provide opportunities for members and non-members to sail, discuss and compare rigs, to share experiences and to enjoy good company.
