Boat types that have been converted to junk - can you help?

    In the General Forum Georg Warnecke asked if we have a list of boats that have been successfully converted to junk.

    David Tyler replied: "Yes, there's a list on the Junk Information/Knowledge Archive page - Fact Sheet 5. It's way out of date, now, I suspect, and certainly is heavily biassed towards the UK and European designs. How about taking on an update, as a "Join In" project?

    After a couple of weeks and some pestering by yours truly, Georg has kindly said Yes. Thanks Georg. There is absolutely no rush (ask Ash Woods how slowwww we can be). If you need any help, just shout. You could perhaps start by trawling through our members boats list (Members' Area> Directories< Members' Boats), where you'll pick up some boat types for sure...

    It's great that Georg has offered to do this.  I think the list is actually pretty important to aspiring junkies.  It not only shows how many different types and style of boat adapt happily to junk rig, it may well also list their particular boat and reassure them that their idea to convert is perfectly sound and sensible.

    i invite everybody to join and to contribute to this little list!!!
    now – one of the first boats i've spotted is a trident 24 – owned by thomas hau.
    this one is also in germany but i'm not sure about the type of boat…
    does anyone know more converted boats?

    Well, I personally have been involved in converting a Westcoaster (20ft, UK) and a Raven 26 (NZ).  I know of loads of others, but let's see who else puts their hand up.

    Well, I notice that the Nicholson 36 is  surprisingly not on the old list. It's the boat used by Mike Ellison in the 1964 OSTAR, converted to junk schooner by Blondie Hasler for her owner, Mrs Barrington.

    Thanks for providing that download, Chris. Good idea. There's the Freedom 39 Pilothouse Schooner (left), of course. And a few Freedom 35s.

    Georg, I'll link to this thread from the Yacht Club Bar. People tend to talk a bit more over there...

    My own boat is a Western Farmer Tahitianna (31ft9in), the conversion has been most successful. I've designed a new junk rig for a Pacific Seacraft Nor'sea 27 (Jeff McFadden), she had a junk rig before but it was not well done. I'm currently designing a junk rig for Zane Krajancic's JOG racer (a "Crewcut" designed by John Hakker). All the other boats that I have done rigs for are custom one off designs.
