    Aims
To ensure that the site is compliant with EU Cookie and Privacy Laws

    Skills
Research, judgement, perhaps integrate WA's third-party software tool into site

    Background
Wild Apricot publish information about the EU law which affects us here, and recommend a third-party utility to resolve. This has been raised in this forum post (few responses). While technically easy to implement it is difficult to judge what settings to use in order not to confuse members, so we currently have a simple warning message which appears at the top of the Home Page and the Members' Area page. Is Big Brother watching?

It would be really useful if you could, Malcolm. What I'd suggest is that you read through the links above and then come back with a proposal about how we best deal with this. It's easy enough to apply WA's recommended system but I've avoided that as don't want to confuse members. Need something simple and straightforward. Look forward to hearing from you.

OK Brian, I will try to construct a suggested proposal - the WA system does look a little OTT, but there is no dodging the fact that we need to have something in place...

The general game plan on privacy and cookies is a matter of having a solid privacy policy and notices on cookie use.

Not had a chance, Lesley, with everything else going on :-(  I will forward it to Mal by email.

Mal, great to have you helping out, much appreciated. I suggest you read Lesley's draft privacy policy - just emailed - and come back with any crits/suggestions. Then we can agree the way ahead and run it past the Committee prior to makiing it live. When that time comes I can give you any necessary admin status so you can get stuck in. OK?

I'll be offline from Saturday to Tuesday. Lesley will be covering :-)

Brian/Lesley, your draft looked pretty good to me! I have annotated it a bit, and made some suggestions I will mail it back to you both.

I think we need to aim for a light touch and transparency - the legislation is aiming for those kind of goals, and we are not planning (I hope) to indulge in the darker side of Web Stalking,  which is what the EU legislation is trying to target, and I am very conscious that a lot of our membership are non-EU located!

I can't claim credit for much more than finding the site, and filling in the answers! It says it conforms to worldwide legislation in place, so it ends up pretty lengthy. Thanks for picking up on the typos I didn't spot.

Head honcho due back today, so we'll have to wait for him to work through his email backlog!
