    Aim
To update our Recommended Books page to include relevant titles mentioned in the Yacht Club Bar, and any other relevant junk books that you or other members are aware of.

    Skills
Grab screenshots off Amazon. Crop to front cover. Upload. Grab text description. Add book to Recommended Books page.

    Description
The Recommended Books section was created almost 2 years ago and hasn't been updated since. I tried to avoid listing books that are already in the JRA Library. Optionally we could lose this page and instead simply list links by title and author to the recommendations on Amazon. In the early days we ran an Amazon JRA 'shop' which was rarely used. That might indicate that the Recommended Books page is rarely used.

Why Amazon?  They are not the only place on line with books; once you've bought anything from them you are inundated with emails trying to sell you more stuff and their business ethics are abysmal.  Why not suggest Abebooks instead, which specialise in second-hand books, allow you to search your own country and are essentially a co-operative of small book dealers.  Or the Book Depository, which has free postage world wide.

    I second Annie's comment.

The page existed as simple links and an (unsuccessful) Amazon bookshop when I took over; I simply revamped and expanded what was already there, and we dumped the shop. Amazon was a system I knew from a previous life.

Now then, which of you is going to volunteer to recreate and update it using one of your suggested suppliers? I dislike Amazon too, but not enough to redo those pages and book lists which Amazon build for you. I was thinking all it needs is extra books adding in, but a complete rebuild might be doable.

I suspect neither of us :-) (though of cause I cannot really speak for Annie). We both do a lot for the JRA (present and past) and have a lot on our plates at the moment. Plus summer is here and we plan to do some sailing (and junkets to attend & organise), lots of it.

If you can wait for next winter and get someone to talk me through it, I'll give it a go ... But it would be nice if someone else would volunteer first.

No problem Paul, Annie. You both do lots for the JRA anyway. Waht we're after really are a few new recruits :-)
