Hi all, first post here.
I'm the owner of Caurryhaundit, a Kingfisher 20+JR. This is my first time with a Junk Rig and I've been furiously experimenting with different setups to try and learn as much as I can about this wonderful sailplan. I have, however, hit two snags and wondered if anyone has any suggestions.
The first is the bendy battens. As you can see from the attached photo, the current battens are made of plaited shoelaces and jelly, or at least thatst what they feel like (in practice they are standard fibreglass), and are horribly bendy to the point of having little to no effect whatsoever on sail shape. I plan to replace them with Aluminium tube, but was wondering whether 16mm X 1.5mm T6 would be suitable.
The second issue is the crinkly leach. No matter what I try, I end up with the leach end of the battens being pulled together once the wind goes above about ten knots. This is the same even when I tried running separate sheets. Is it likely rhat this is related to the wet string battens?
Thanks in advance for your insight.
