Trevor, it was called "mast and spar search..." in the General Forum.

    Hi Trevor,

Sounds like a great project and one that could keep you fairly occupied!

I have made one finished mast and two "mast blanks" for JR boats in the course of my timber business here just outside Perth (Scotland). Please have a look for a recent thread on masts and spars (sorry I should have looked that up before writing this but it was just in the last few weeks) as in it I described what we did. I'd be happy to help you with advice on the timber side of mast making in any way I can. Essentially, though, you have two choices: to make a solid mast out of a log or make one up either by laminations or with the bird-mouth method. Sounds like you have a heavy-ish boat so maybe the minor extra  weight of solid masts will not matter much, and these would be the cheapest option in timber I think. Alternatively a lighter and potentially stronger stick can be made by one of the other "composite" methods.

It would be interesting to hear more about your boat either on here or by a direct message.

    All the best,

    Pol

    Hi All

My name is Trevor Panrucker, i work as a Site Manager, i have 2 gorgeous daughters and i spend

All my spare time working on my yacht (with a little training in between). Got to keep fit with a Yacht of this size :)

I thought it is about time i introduced myself.

I have placed an advert for information on masts for my project:

I am looking for 3 masts for a 60ft steel yacht.

    Main mast: 45ft/13.8m approx

    Fwd mast: 35ft/10.7m approx

    Miz mast: 26ft/8m approx

At the moment i am unsure of material to be used so i will look at all until i decide.

I may be interested in anything else that may be of use to me?

    Please call 07450-463318

Any additional info or help would be greatly appreciated?

    Look forward to your replies?

    Hi Trevor,

I think the front runner for sailcloth, in this size of boat, is Top Gun. It is heavy, at 11 oz/sq yd, but has proved long-lasting, when used for large junk sails.
