I see two advantages to tabling the sail - which is a sailmaker's way of saying putting a hem on.  The first is that if you fold the sailcloth over the webbing it will hide the webbing and looker neater.  The second is that in doing so, you will keep the sun off the webbing, some of which is more UV resistant than others.  It will also ensure an extra couple of lines of stitching  - never a bad thing along the edge of a sail.

    Hi Bryan,

on Little Gypsy Girl's sails I left an extra 4 inches all round the sail, then stuck the webbing down outside the line of the edge of the sail with double sided sellotape. I then glued the outside 2 inches to the webbing with contact cement and then turned the edge over and glued it to the sail. Finally I put three rows of stitching through the whole lot. It is very strong and was very easy to do. At the corners and angles I crossed the bundles over and stitched the assembly together. After surviving the gusts at the AGM meet with no damage it seems to work!!

All the best with the sail making. David.

If the luff and leach are taped in their entirety, is tabling also necessary?
