SibLim update

Alas, neither the boat nor the builder could be described as sublime.  and such a name would certainly set me up to be shot down again!  Indeed, it's the anticipated response from other people that often makes me reject a name; so I vacillate from wonderful, romantic names that other people will laugh at, to inoffensive, traditional and, frankly, rather dull.  Some day, as Mr T suggests, someone will say something that will throw a switch and the name will suddenly be there!

I think we need to be more subliminal, David. Just give SibLim the merest hint of what her final name might be, so that she thinks that she's thought of it herself.

Obviously it is in the remit of the builder/owner to name their boat, but may I make a couple of suggestions which both nod to the project name and also plays on the word "sublime".

How about "Siblime" or "Simply Siblime"?

The first study of the value of the sublime is the treatise ascribed to Longinus: On the Sublime. For Longinus, the sublime is an adjective that describes great, elevated, or lofty thought or language. As such, the sublime inspires awe and veneration.

Taking on your project in the first place has inspired awe and veneration in a lot of us mere bystanders.

    Yours, etc,  Dave D.

Glad you approve :-).  Pleasant Promise - a nice name indeed.  Talking of names, I'm still waiting to discover what SibLim would like to be known as!

Problem with that name is that The Oracle would start calling it "PP" ....ahem.

Shrewd point.  No doubt Marcus's boat will soon be known as ST - will yours just be plain and simple P?  But if he'd better not call my boat by her initials x-(

More pretty woodwork to brighten a rather gloomy November Sunday morning.

You used the phrase "a pleasant promise". I remember seeing a Northumberland Coble, years ago, with each strake painted a different colour and with this name in script on the bow. It blew my mind, such an evocative name on such a eye-pleasing boat.
