Ideal junk rig type for hull type & weight

    Mark, it would be better to take a holistic approach - which of the various types of junk rig will suit the boat, the sailor, the sailing waters, the type of sailing to be undertaken, the budget... and probably some other factors, too. But I think the most important question is which of the various types of junk rig will suit a particular type of sailor.

    Well, here's my two-bits...

    It depends what you want to achieve, and what is taken as a 'given.' 

    I think the choice of the right boat for your purpose is more important than the specifics of the rig. If you've already settled on the boat, no variety of junk rig will make her comfortably do what she isn't suited to. 

    It's like rowing. You can row a 7' pram as hard as you want, and go no faster.

    The junk rig is perfect for moderate goals.

    I assume:
    A heavy / poor to windward boat needs a powerful rig, and perhaps one that is well behaved motor sailing.
    A slim / easily driven hull needs an efficient  low drag to lift rig.
    The question is, do the various types of junk rig suit a particular type of hull?
