If you look carefully at photo no 11, you can see that black rubber has been glued along the bottom of the 'washboard'.  This is slightly compressed when the acrylic sheet is raised.  I'm moored in a tidal stream so that occasionally rain has been driven against the washboards (although it's been such a fantastic summer we've hardly had any): no leaks thus far :-)

Pictures speak louder than words. Great idea, and another job on my list.

Looks good Annie. I should put a bit more thought into how I will modify mine.

I have finally got round to sorting out and uploading the photos of this project.  I've been using it for several weeks now and have to say that it is an unqualified success that I would recommend to anyone who dislikes washboards.  I didn't write any captions, but if you find the photos less than self-explanatory, tell me and I'll do something about it.

The album is with my others.

Did the final fit and glue of the teak surround today, with more than a little help from my friend, Marcus, a talented boatbuilder.  I'd never have managed without him: the shape is far too complicated for my skills.  I'm hoping to drill the Perspex tomorrow and fit the hinges.  Then I need to work out exactly what to use for chocks to support the folded-down washboards.

Gary Pick wrote:Correct Annie, the sides are parallel. I should have tapered them and I don't know why I didn't.

A senior moment? :-) Ah well that will make conversion to fold down doors easy. Theres always a bright side.
