Alan on Zebedee has his 60th birthday coming up on 29th August, so we are planning a BIG celebration for his birthday. Which just so happens to be in August, when we usually hold a winter junket.
The plan is to celebrate on and around
Zebedee in Orongo Bay (35°17'30"S,174°08'E). There were some caustic comments at the AGM about the number of people who arrived via wheeled vessels rather than under sail, so I hope to see plenty of junks at anchor there. Those whose boats are being built, rebuilt, re-rigged and those who simply don't have a boat, may be able to hitch a ride, but if all else fails, will have to go there using wheels. Marcus is planning to take
Freebie, (with a new rig!!) and he will provide a ferry service where necessary.
If those with larger vessels would be willing to offer berths to those whose boats are being built, rebuilt, or re-rigged, or those who simply don't have a boat, that would be very much appreciated. I dare say Alan could offer a bunk or two. Otherwise, we will just have to manage the best we can. Each of us will bring food and grog for the occasion, and if it's anything like most junkets, you'd be wise to supply yourself for a few days!
The last 60th birthday party I went to in Orongo Bay, we had 6 boats rafted up and rowing races. Let's outdo that one and have a really memorable Winter Junket.
Incidentally, there is a junket in Maine just a couple of days later. I don't suppose those of you in the UK could rustle up one as well, to provide a hat trick?
