I am pleased to announce that a junket will take place to coincidide with the AGM in McLeod, Whangarei Harbour, Whangarei, New Zealand. It is hoped to have some sailing activity on Saturday and again on Sunday. The AGM starts at 1800 hours on Saturday and will include a Pot Luck dinner after the formal business. High water is at 1740 hours which is very convenient for landing on the beach. A shuttle service will operate from the beach to AGM venue. Be prepared to walk downhill back home. Looking forward to a good turnout of boats. Please register your interest here.

I realise this is only a month away now so I was wondering which boats are going up, or down, to this Junket. I have taken leave from work to allow me and Footprints to attend and plan on sailing up from Mahurangi on the Friday. Anyone interested in sailing in convoy, or interested in sailing up as crew with me on Footprints?

David, I'm intending to start work on Fantail's new sail in a couple of weeks. If it's finished prior to the AGM we could sail up in company (I'll be singlehanding), and if it isn't (more likely) I'd be delighted to join you on Footprints.

    Hi David

I fly up to Auckland Thursday night so if fantail has already gone north or is staying in Auckland then I'd be keen to crew for you.

    Cheers

    Linda

You don't need to take the old sail off to build the new one, you know.  All you need to make sure the batten pockets will fit is a suitable offcut of alloy tubing (available at Junk Rig central).  So you can wait until the sail is finished before removing the old one and making the new.

For what it's worth, it took me about 40 - let's say 45 - hours with scissors and sewing machine to make Fantail's original sail.  Where do you plan to do it?

Thank you Bryan and Linda for your offers of being potential crew. We at least have some starters. All I want to know now is who is to be organising the 12 to 20 knot southwesterly winds for the Friday?

    Hi Annie

Paul has offered the use of his workshop for making the new sail. We hope to sail to Shelly Bay, Auckland, and leave Fantail moored there as a home for me while I make the sail and Linda goes back to work in Christchurch. It's possible that instead we sail to Whangarei next week and leave Fantail there while I scoot to Auckland to play sail maker. It depends on the availability of a mooring in Shelly Bay.

The original sail is starting to look like Josef's coat! We're now in a rainy Squadron Bay, and have just received (yet another) compliment on the sail from a well-known classic yacht owner. The sail still looks good from a distance!

I do hope to have Fantail attending the ball, looking dazzling in her new gown and slippers.

Don't ask either of us - organising weather is not our specialty! :-)

Intending to sail LC up... not sure when I'll leave. That will depend on what the weather gods are doing.
