Event: (UK) Plymouth Junket Saturday 11th May 2014

    It looks like there will be a least 2 boats... (where 2 or more are gathered!!) Myself and Chris with China Girl.  Tim Start and his partner are coming down and will sail with me, on at least one of the days.

    The boat above the Tamar bridge is called Janvier.... something.  I shot passed it the other day but didn't get a proper look at the name.

    When JDS visited me at Huggins yard he described as third world boating lol..... it's certainly not everyones cup of tea. 

    Brian perhaps you like to meet for supper on the Saturday night? 

    The bulkhead was annoying.... but even more annoying was finding out that the bilge was not sealed properly and water was getting into the keel space.  Having consulted Jeremy Rogers it seems it is a known problem on earlier boats pre '75.  I've sorted it now but just another hurdle to get over before splashing!

    You asked about the schooner junk in a Sutton Harbour, Dolittle. I think that's the problem. Little has got done over the winter, so it's doubtful that they'll make it in the boat, but last time I saw them they said they would love a sail. I'll chase 'em.

    Good to hear you are getting on top of things. I am presently resurfacing the galley then will be getting stuck into some wiring faults. Never a lazy day :-)

    Hi Peter,

    I am planning to pop down for the day (by car - no boat) to see the start of the Jester, and was wondering if there is a space on any JR vessel for moi. I will happily cost share, pull ropes - make tea, generally get in the way etc.

    Neil on the steel, still in-build Van der Stadt DooLittle in Sutton Harbour tells me he'd definitely like to attend the junket and has time off work. Could you contact him on his mobile re arrangements? I'll email his number. He has a car so no problems getting to your boat or to Chris's.

    Paradox is now out of the water so as there are only a couple of boats I'll skip the junket and turn up for the grub! Veggie option, please, and let me know where!

    It is with a heavy heart that I admit defeat and will not be able to get Mariposa in the water before the weekend.  I've been slogging away night and day, but several parts I'm having manufactured will not be ready as promised, so I've decided to remove the self imposed stress and wait a couple of more weeks.

    So Chris I'm afraid it looks like you will be on your own.  However I look forward to a sail in company with you in due course.

    Bad luck, Peter. Paradox will be afloat again early June, so maybe we can schedule a junket then. Perhaps Chris could ring Neil (I'll send his mobile no.) and tell him whether or not he can get a sail?

    However, we've had similar things happening with our NZ junkets and have come to the conclusion that the best thing is to be flexible about the date so that people get a second chance of getting together.  We exchange cell phone numbers with those who are really keen and keep in touch by text.

    Bad luck, Peter, but you might be reassured to realise that this is the norm, rather than the exception.  And for sure, the first rule of cruising is no deadlines, so you will be starting the way you will need to carry on.  Best of luck, however, with all your work.

    Oh, well - no Plymouth junket this year - never mind. Very sorry, but not really surprised to hear of your delays, Peter - as Annie says, this is the norm, rather than the exception!

    Perhaps we should transfer the whole thing to Mylor at the end of June?

    Anyhow, I plan to sail China Girl down to Cawsand on the Saturday with my 8-year-old, Louise, and watch the Jester start on Sunday. I believe Ash Woods intends to come down and join us. We can pick anyone else up who would like to join us on Sunday, but cannot offer any overnight berths - limited accomodation.
