It seems that I might have to change my boat or the rig I have made for several reasons, in order to make my boat sail the way I want it to.

The question is about a mismatch between the boat and the rig, not a fault in either one as itself. Many people would be happy with the combination as it is.

Anyway, I'm checking possible interest for the happily yellow sail I have made. It's Arne Kvaerneland's Johanna-type sail (AR 2.15, if I remember correctly) with a sail area of about 27m2. The batten length is 4000mm.

I have made the sail from separate panels using broadseaming and a few tucks . The lowest panel has a targeted camber of 10%, most of the others 8% and less at the top. I haven't measured the actual camber.

The "hinges" (that work as batten pockets) have been made for 35mm batten tubes.

The method allows for leaving e.g. one panel away, if need be. My boat is a Galion 22 with about 1500kg of deplacement.

As the cloth I used Swela Outguard 190 gsm. The sail has been used for two very short, northern summers. The sail has some dark marks from the battens and some light wear. The lowest panel has a small patch sewn in, because the cloth was once caught badly during a sail because of my own mistake.

I have sailed in winds exeeding 15 m/s without being worried of the stability of the sail.

The sail (and the boat, if someone would be interested in both) is located in Finland and can be shipped (the sail, that is). Because of the cost, it will probably only be relevant to think shipping inside Europe, though.

Having downsized, we are looking for a sail for a Freedom 21 which already has a suitable unstayed mast. It's a light displacement boat (about 2/3 of yours) and the existing mainsail area is 20m2.  So, your sail with the bottom panel removed seems like a possibility. Would you agree? If you do decide to sell, would you include battens and yard or just the sail?  By the way, we live in the UK.

I'm interested to hear that you've downsized to a Freedom 21, they're neat little boats. If Jami's sail should turn out to be a no-go for any reason, may I put forward a possible alternative? I've been happy with my wingsail this summer, and after I've done a few upgrades this winter, that'll be a keeper. So, the sail I used for the previous two summers will become available. It's 22 sq m, with battens and yard included. I'll have to fix some chafe, and it's a bit faded, with 3,000 miles on the clock, but it's still very strong. It's made from Clipper Canvas.

The mast of the Freedom has a bit aft rake (2°), but that should be no problem. You may pull the top of the sail aft so the luff and leech sit parallel with the mast. This surely guarantees snag-free sheeting.
