For four years we have enjoyed short breaks and long weekends on "Blondie" in the Bay of Islands. With plenty of time on hand now, we have bought a bigger yacht to extend our cruising time and range. Unfortunately, we can not afford to keep two boats, and we are therefore looking for a good home for "Blondie".
She is a sound, very beamy 21' wooden junk rigged yacht with a cambered Arne Kverneland style sail and sails very well. Unfortunately, the sails has a few patches due to chafe which occured on the mooring before we installed a boom crutch. She was built around 1930, has been restored a few times and the raised cabin roof with the wide sliding hatch was added by the previous owner. She was antifouled in November 2018 and is good to go. "Blondie" sleeps two people comfortably. However, we have deliberately kept her quite basic, but without saving on safety. She sports:
- Rocna anchor with 13 m of chain and two spare anchors
- Chartplotter with depth sounder
- VHF radio
- Fire extinguisher
- 6 hp extra long shaft 4-stroke Mercury outboard
- LED navigation-, anchor- and cabin-lights
- Electric bilge pump with float switch
- Manual bilge pump
- Solar panel
- Battery
- Porta Potty
All of the above purchased during the last 4 to 5 years.
"Blondie" does not have a galley. We used a little Esbit stove to heat up our meals and to boil water for tea. For refrigeration, we used a chilly bin with ice packs. She has no shower and we recommend saltwater shampoo and a dip in the glassy waters and you feel like 20 years old again! She has a stainless steel boarding ladder on the side.
We picked our days and enjoyed every single one on "Blondie" exploring every nook and cranny of the Bay of Islands, Whangarei Harbour and the coast in between. She might be just what you need for a relaxing weekend or longer with good books and a hand line. Or perhaps, you know somebody who would be just the right person to start a boating career on an easy to handle junk.
You can be sure of waves and smiles from other boaties whenever you sail by :-)
Actually, "Blondie" is priceless, but we a very realistic and want her sold to a good home. We therefore only ask for
NZ$ 5,000,--
And no, there is actually nothing wrong with her at all!
Cheers
