WTB Junk Rig for solo sailor

    Hello everyone,

    I have been a member for a few years and I’m finally ready to get a Junk Rig. If anyone knows of one for sale located from Texas to Maine or the Great Lakes region. 22-30’ is ideal and must be at least a costal cruiser. If I can’t find something by January I’m planning on getting a Westerly Centaur and converting it myself over the next year or so.

    Hi John,

    I sincerely wish you the best of luck with your boat search. I did not have much luck finding a boat for sale inside the US with a junk rig.

    I have never seen a Westerly Centaur in person but I have spent plenty of time looking at the lines and photos and wishing to find one for sale nearby. On paper this looks like a great 26' cruiser.

    Please excuse the unsolicited opinion that follows. If you know of a Westerly Centaur for sale in the US in good condition for a good price I think you should buy the boat right away and get started on conversion to a junk rig!

    But either way your post gives me the perfect excuse to continue looking at boats for sale even though I am no longer looking for myself. I will let you know if I see anything.

    This boat is not in the area you listed, but it is in the US. The Pacific Seacraft 25 has captured my imagination several times since I first read about the design in John Vigor's book 'Twenty Small Sailboats to Take You Anywhere'.

    There are no photos, but the list of equipment and list of repairs done look great for the for the asking price. The current owner started on a Junk Rig conversion.

    If I was looking for a project and I was under , say 5 foot 5 tall? I'd run to check this out.

    The PSC 25 is a FANTASTIC boat with very little headroom. VERY little headroom. That makes them a great bargain for shorter folks.

    Well, I'm 5ft 9in, and the 5ft 2in given here as the headroom would be enough for me; I wouldn't expect more in a boat under 28ft. It's all I have in Weaverbird. Anyway, the spec says "Small pilot house built (2015) unfinished" which implies more will be available.

    Yes, this is worth checking out, for anyone within reasonable trucking distance of Bellingham.

    Thanks for all of the input. I’m 6’0 so headroom is kind of an issue. The problem I’m seeing with the Centaurs available in the states is if they have an inboard diesel they are in very rough shape for my price range. I know I will travel the inter coastal waterway so I’m not sure an outboard would be sufficient. I plan to upsize the sail area during the conversion so I’m not worried about sailing in light airs. Looking at the lines of her, the Centaur begs to be a Junk Rig!

    I missed the part about the pilothouse. For the price ...this could be a very fun / fine project. I believe it already has the mast as well.
