Found some much better photos here:

    http://www.privateer26.org/gallery/displayimage.php?album=20&pid=168#top_display_media

includes sailplan and photos of boat under sail.

Curious about that phrase "perfect conversion", but I'll admit it does look nice

A sweet looking little boat - very much in the Colvin style.

The overwhelming majority of junkies in the JRA are of the extreme KISS form of rig - no hank on/extra sails, no rigging and no deck work.  However, Colvin has a great following, particularly in USA and not a few of his vessels have been built.  I do wish we heard more about them.

What is interesting about this boat is that it apparently has had a junk rig placed on its original spars and it would very good to hear how effective this has been.  A lot of potential junkies are scared to move the existing spars (often under the impression that it will reduce the resale value): this could be an alternative, if it works well.

Arne has occasionally suggested replacing a gaff sail with a fully-battened, multi-sheeted main.  This Colvin-type rig goes a step further.  Does anyone know of any other boats that have been re-rigged in this way and how successful they have been?

I think for someone interested in JR, but perhaps daunted by its difference, this boat would be a fine way to explore its potential.  And Thomas Gilmer has a good reputation.

Funny how people are afraid that their boats will become difficult to sell if they convert them to junks. I have found that my boats with JR were easy to sell, and mostly at a reasonable price. I didn’t get back the money I spent on the JR, but in most cases I have sold the old rigs later, for real money.

If you want to sell well, it is essential is to make sure the boat is operational so you can take the wannabe junkies for a sail. Remember, most of them will have heard negative rumours about tacking angles and speed to windward. I usually try to impress them as much as possible while looking relaxed (not difficult), doing quick tacks, figure eights, reefing etc. Their reaction to my manoeuvres is either silent yaw-dropping or excited, thin, silly laughing.

I have sold four junks, so far, and this tactics has never failed.

    Arne
