36’ x 12’ x 4.5’ centreboard aluminum double-ended radius-chine sailboat.  Launched 2007.  Unstayed rig, presently standing-lug ketch.  Live-aboard.  Outboard rudder; self-steering servo rudder built, not presently installed.  Good sea-keeper, designed for offshore cruising. Could be readily converted to junk rig; 3 strongly-built tabernacles allow aluminum masts to be easily folded down using onboard gear.  33 HP Yanmar diesel, few hours on complete professional rebuild.  Campbell Sailer 17” 3-blade prop.  Long keel for ease of beaching and as a convenience for owner-conducted maintenance.  9000 Lb formed lead ballast isolated from and epoxied into box keel with heavy plate aluminum bottom.  Capacious tankage for water and fuel.  Diesel stove with oven.  Also wood stove for heat, with cooking surface.  One double, four single berths. Located south coast BC, Canada. Regrettably, must sell for health reasons.  Would like to see $100K US [considerably more than that into it, materials and equipage alone, never mind the sweat equity!]; any reasonable offer considered.  Must see--terrific boat.

It would help a novice member like myself to follow the conversation if there were photos linked to the things being discussed.

Do the members present feel this dipping lug boat can be converted to junk rig with out relocation of the mast tabernacles?  This boat is relatively near us and we are interested. I am concerned about the balance of the new sail profiles in an unproven design.

I've been poring over the photos, and couldn't come to any kind of view as to what kind of JR would suit this boat, which is some way out of the mainstream. There's a tabernacle right in the bow, which I think can be discounted. The main mast looks rather short, and rather far aft.

Then I saw that Alan Jones has just given us a link to his blog about his triloboat Autarkia (another boat some way outside the mainstream), and there's a thumbnail sketch of the rig that he proposes, that might just work on this boat too.
