This may be of interest - I see there is a Badger relative for sale on Apollo Duck (not by me) with a gaff rig, 32 foot dory, might not be suitable for JR due to narrower beam but here's the link anyway:

Shame about the rig ;-); more of a shame about the side decks.  However, she looks a very nice job, if a tad over-engined, and very good value for money.  According to the listing, the beam is 11ft, so I can't imagine that would pose any problem.

I see you are looking for a larger boat, Gavin.  Would she not suit you?

Looks like a fine boat to me, and brand new, to a reasonable price, as well. How about the stupid EU rules? Is the Benford approved and can be sold (within 5 years after building)?

The gaff rig may not be so bad. Since the rig is new, it can possibly be sold for some money. It is also possible to make a quick and dirty conversion from gaff to junk by just replacing the gaff mainsail with a junk sail
(see  http://goo.gl/0rL1rr ). If the boat had been junk-rigged from start, the chances would be that the sail was flat, and that is even worse: Then the sail is not good, but since it was new, it would feel too bad to throw it away...

    Cheers, Arne

Following Annie's comment - I had assumed it was a Benford Dory 32 as per Jay Benfords site and specs and hadn't of course read the dimensions quoted on the ad! Just to be sure, the owner has confirmed it is indeed a shortened 34 so the beam is 11 foot. I'm tempted but the timings not good right now...

It never is, Gavin, it never is.  That's why so many people dream and so few people realise their dream.  That sounds nauseatingly smug, I know, but Arthur Ransome said it in a nutshell: Grab a chance, and you won't be sorry for a might-have-been.
