I just looked up The CAL 29 design. It has much in common with Johanna which I used to have. However, I think your Cal looks better. You should be happy with it! Have you finished converting it?
I am happy with it. It was reading through this add and realizing that what I just bought is only 3 feet shorter and pretty much just as wide and has room for 4 adults (our family) without lowering the table and at a price we can afford and came with mooring we can afford. Yeah, pretty happy.
We have not started converting yet. I want to spend a summer with it as is first. This was a suggestion in these forums and I think, a good one. It also gives me a bit of time put some money aside for the new mast and epoxy and glass to make the partners and step, etc.
The nicest place to put the mast is right where it is now. Because we need the V berth and the position forward of the V berth is too far forward The present position would disturb the interior the least. There is already a 2X8 from deck where the mast is stepped to the sole, so it would be easiest to replace that and reinforce the deck over. That would mean the SJR would probably be best suited but there is still lots of time to play with drawings and other ideas. I think we are a bit short for a ketch rig.
