A very different and interesting interpretation of a junk rig.

Are there any experiences with this kind of setup?

Doesn't look like a junk rig, a sort of cut down gaff mainsail, I cannot see anything junk in that. Looks like a cobbled together rig but not intended for serious sailing, but the jib might do something. Not a yacht for real sailors. Maybe a boat for pottering around Moreton Bay and the Broadwater area between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Hope the boat has got a good engine!

    Two things Horst

    1)
That is not a junk rig. It is an A-frame rig with a gaff main.

    2) In the right hands there is nothing snail about a Westsail. They are great blue water boats especially when it gets rough and hairy.

In fact I suggest you delete this thread.

Horst not as far as I am concerned.

    No sheetlets and sheets.
    Too few battens/panels.
More like a mixed breed gunter/gaff.

It's sad to see that done to an otherwise fantastic cruising ship.

My suggestion? Scrap the entire rig and start over.

I agree with David: and , hope she has a good engine.
