Parallel 40 North to Eureka, by Brian Platt
Brian Platt joined the Malayan Civil Service in 1952 and was sent to Kuala Lumpur. In 1957 Independence came, and Brian left Singapore on a boat (Chempaka) to go to Canada, where he wanted to live and work. They struggled as far as Manila. Brian then moved to Hong Kong and had High Tea built. She got him, in good shape, via Okinawa and Japan, to Eureka, California on Christmas Day 1959. By then an enthusiastic fan of the junk rig, Brian produced a highly readable book about the voyages, Parallel 40 North to Eureka. The JRA has acquired the remaining stock from Anthony Platt who published it following his brother's death in 1988. It is available now for members to buy. Meanwhile find out more about Brian and High Tea here.
