Dear all,
It is with a heavy heart that we put our beloved boat, 'Barny' on the market.
With the combined effect of Brexit and Covid we are finding that having a boat in the UK is really problematic. We are unable to visit and use Barny and our intended voyage to the Baltics also became questionable.
Barny is a junk rigged Varne 27, a true pocket cruiser. Very safe and seaworthy, and with her big single junk sail she is very fast in light winds. She was launched in 1999 and had been outfitted to participate in the Jester Challenge, a solo trans oceanic race. She has a custom keel (a steel plate with a big flat bottomed lead bulb) and semi balanced rudder designed by Ian Nicholson to give her more performance. As a result she feels and handles like a much bigger boat.
We bought Barny in 2018 in Ipswitch. We sailed her up to Scotland along the East coast, crossed the Caledonian canal, and cruised the Hebrides for two seasons. Barny is currently ashore in a boatyard on the Isle of Skye. She is in very good condition, ready to sail away, fully equipped for cruising. Equipment include a windvane, autopilot, Jordan series drogue, chartplotter, AIS receiver, solar panels, several anchors with chain/rope etc.
A reliable 1 cylinder Volvo Penta with saildrive provide ample power to leave and enter marinas and anchorages and in the inland waterways.
Our asking price is GBP 5500.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or for additional photos.
Best regards, Denes
