Junk rigged schooner Tanton 42 for sale as is where is for $10,000.
Nancy and my lives mission has changed and as much as we want to take Avelinda sailing again we have to admit to our self’s that we don’t see it happening in the foreseeable future. We know the market is depressed do to Covid and everyone is strapped for cash including us. We would like to see her go to someone in the junk rig community who will take care of her and love her as we have and that is more important to us than getting fair market value.
Avelinda is sitting on the hard in the Green Cove Springs Marina, a DIY yard in north east Florida on the St Johns river approximately 40 miles south of Jacksonville Florida. She has been there now about 3 years and the storage fee is $300 per month. There is an outstanding balance of about $1,800 do to a credit card mix up which will need to be paid before launch but current storage fees are being made regularly.
Some sea water got into her rudder and corroded some of the steel structure inside and will need to be repaired before launching. The old headliner was removed for replacement and the new panels cut out and are stored aboard and need installed. All the cushions are in great shape and are stored at home. The sails are flat cut and in perfect shape. The Yanmar 60hp engine was running fine when she was hauled and is of relatively low hours and has been lovingly cared for. Her coach roof needs to be painted but other than that she could be launched and put to sea. She is a wonderful sailing vessel and we have thoroughly enjoyed her. We last sailed her from St Augustine Florida to Bermuda and from there, direct to the bottom of the Bahamas where we meandered back north through the islands before jumping off at Linyard Cay Cut for the direct sail back to St Augustine, a 2 ½ day trip.
There are a number of youtube videos of Avelinda under sail and a tour of her cabin which can be found Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxDkRHVrGC44fJpdQDLwZbQ/videos . I will be back in the states from the end of March until the first of June so time is of the essence. As a professional boat builder I would put her fair market value at about $40,000 given the present market condition and in her present condition. Repairs to get her launched and the arrears paid around $5,000 assuming you can not do the work yourself. Once back in the states I’ll take some current pictures to post to interested parties.
