Practical Junk Rig (PJR) Update

    Aims:
    1 To trawl the site for articles, diagrams, photos and posts that provide information not in the latest edition of Hasler/McLeod's Practical Junk Rig (scroll down to the bottom of the page that appears from that link).
    2 To convert that information into content for publication as an appendix to PJR.

    Skills
    Methodical research. Download and process. Upload to the existing work area of the site so that it can be accessed by others. Monitor content as it arrives so we have a global approach. Edit to a consistent style. Arrange publication via Committee.

    Background
    This project started in 2012 but seems to have ground to a halt. Several members were interested in contributing to this and had Admin access to the dedicated filing area, which is organised in 'chapters' matching those of PJR. Some content was identified and filed by David Tyler and others. The project is perhaps best suited to a team approach, with a team leader/coordinator.

    It's rebirth may mean that the separate Ask the Junkmaster project could be dropped.

    This is a great and long overdue project!

    As a stepping-stone project (prior, and less detailed), I'd like to suggest expanding the Junk Information>Sailplans>Current and Early sections of the JRA site with the following:

    Lesley, Bruce's junk vocab file could easily be moved as per the above suggestion.

    Perhaps the whole reply merits logging as a separate project?

    if I continue as I started, with laying out loose-leaf articles in the same style as the magazine (I would have to go back over existing articles, and change the masthead to the current one).

    But I don't have the time to do all the trawling and re-drawing of diagrams, etc. This is where the project stalled before. If someone will present me with a package of content on one particular topic, I will happily do the DTP work on it.

    Thanks for volunteering David. We didn't set this forum up to draw you in though :-)

    Now folks, David has done more than one guy should have ever have been expected to do for the JRA, eg set up the site, edited the magazine, and more, and all of that while building a boat, and making I've lost track of how many rigs and sails - oh and crossing oceans and winning at least one award. So how about helping us out by volunteering to do the research, which means tracking down items on the site or in the magazines that should be in the update? David is happy to do the DTP work but we really do need one or more people to do the donkey work...

    I've heard from Chris Gallienne that he will help with this project. So as soon as I get settled into winter quarters, I'll start turning my attention to this and the next magazine issue. But the more the merrier. As I said elsewhere - a lot of people, each doing a little. That, ultimately, is the thing that will cause the JRA to go on thriving.

    This project has well and truly stalled, with the last posting more than a year ago. Yet it's one of our more important projects, and I plead for someone amongst our members to pick it up and run with it. I had neither the time nor the energy to do more than sketch out the kind of approach I would take.
