Junk in my garage

Hello all, just though I'd share this pic of my project, WaveDragon.

Based primarily on Alan Mulholland's Wave Rover 650 design, but stretched, strengthened, and increased space aboard. She is 23' 8" overall, twin keels. Single solid wood mast in a tabernacle ala Annie Hill / Fanshi. Also will be making the circa 280 sq ft sail this winter. Yes, I still have much work ahead!

Will be launching this coming June/July if I can keep to the schedule.

Will no doubt be needing advice here on the rig etc in coming weeks from kind willing souls...

    Thanks, and Cheers!

    Steve

    Great name.

It look very close to the base plans. Stretched but not much (less than 10% - I think) and probably didn't need much strengthening. It sounds like you are aiming for trailer-able as you have not increased the beam. I have not seen Wave Rover in person but perhaps you have. I would think you must have specific use for the added interior space. Are you also planning to use it primarily for solo sailing? or more holiday use?

I look forward to watching your progress.

    720 / 650 ,  indeed about 10-11%

... and probably didn't need much strengthening.

While the plans do call out the number (3) and material (white oak) if the keel floors, the plans lack actual dimensions, leaving this important detail as an exercise for the builder. Looking over other blue water designs, particularly the Glass Globe 580, I chose to add a fourth and make them heavier than Alan Mulholland did for a bit more margin (I lack his boat building and blue water experience, to be sure). I also used white oak for the bottom portions of every bulkhead and ring frame, and full width rather than butt joined from multiple pieces. Among other tweaks.

I'd be glad to provide more details for anyone interested.

Definitely, this was a major point for me, he base design being a smidgen under 8 feet.

Me either but look forward to. Although I have watched his every video in slow mo many times :)

Three sons. All over 6 feet tall...

fun passages on the Great Lakes (U.S.) with my sons at first, then Atlantic via the Erie Canal in coming years, solo for sure as my wife has expressed trepidation...

I look forward to watching your progress.

Thank you kindly, and for your observations and interest.

Completed fid and seam rubber, from scrap white oak. Would have been easier with a lathe.
