    Nicholas,

I have shared your message with my friend; we'll see what she says. I would love to read such an account also.

The various sailing possibilities sound lovely – sure wish I could come too! Hopefully you will write stories as well :-)

    Shemaya,

    Pleased to be of assistance.

This is one junkie who would be fascinated to read or hear about your friends involvement iin the building of Heraclitus. If she has a written account or could be persuaded to write one, I am sure it would be a great perspective from one so young at the time? I hope that might be possible.
The folk involved in the current refit in Roses include original builders who are advising and assisting the current project with their kmowledge. Very friendly folk indeed who invited me to apply to join them for the new voyage simply based on my interest in the junk rig and marine conservation. I may yet make that call or perhaps sail Somerled from the UK to Roses this summer. Anyone interested to crew a voyage under junk rig?

That's a great photo, Graham. The record speaks for itself, that the boat works – lots of points for that :-)

Brian, tremendous that you might have a chance to go visit this boat. Sure would be fun to hear about it, if you do. And yes, the JRA is fantastic.

Fascinating boat, if not exactly beautiful (I am thinking, for instance, of Varua), 270,000 miles at sea including an expedition to the Antarctic. Here is a photo:

What a find. As Paradox is wintering in Cartagena, Spain, and Heraclitus is in Roses, near Amporiabrava and Cadaques, we'll try to check her out when we get going again in May. Both were old stomping grounds for us back in the 80s. This is one more plus for the JRA. Well done all.

Thanks, Chris. Confirmed this morning that this is the boat that my friend remembers, from working on it when she was 15, in 1975. The webpage is so nice and thorough, and detailed, that she knew it right away.

Thank you Nicholas, for making the connection – my friend is quite excited to find what happened with the project!

Easiest way to find out is to contact them - RV Heraclitus is a JRA member in the person of Christine Handte, her expedition chief.

    Nicholas,

What a good thought! Funny, I've read about this boat in other contexts,, and didn't think of it. Thank you! I'll check with my friend, and report back.

    Thanks again!

Boat mystery: 92 foot ferrocement traditional (I believe) hull, built around 1975 in San Francisco, by a "Gurjieff following theater group/commune." Possibly launched and sailed to France where the folks opened a restaurant.

How's that for a story! Somebody I know was 15 years old during the building, and helped, but has no further idea what happened. So now I'm curious – you'd think that a 92 foot junk rigged boat would stand out. Anybody know about it??

So far, it's confirmed that this is NOT the 80 something foot, three-masted, ferrocement French pilot boat design that was probably launched in the 1980s, from Sausalito, and was lost off the coast of Mexico.

    Thanks for any insight!
