Any junk rigged boats in Texas or nearby?

    For some reason JRA-members from all over the world write to me, fairly frequently.

    Most of the writers are smart enough to write something like "Junk Rig question" on the subject line. This makes the letter stand out from spam.

    As far as I remember, I have yet to reject such a letter, so I suggest you do similar when contacting JRA-members in Texas.

    Mike, if you look here, you will find that there are no fewer than 10 members in Texas.  Their email address is listed, or you can contact them via the JRA website, which, when you are 'cold calling' people can be a good idea.  Not everyone is happy getting an email from a stranger, especially if they don't use it very often.  There is also a spread sheet you can download, which lists where everyone lives - sometimes this is easier to use than the search feature.

    I hope to hear all about the inaugural Texas junket very soon!

    I live in Houston, TX and I am slowly doing my research to buy or build a boat and go cruising for a few years.  I think the idea of a junk rig is great and I am keen to see (and hopefully sail on one) in person.  There are GR boats everywhere here and I've seen a couple of gaffers but I haven't seen any JR anywhere.

    I'm willing to go further afield than Texas if necessary and I did see that there's some kind of meet-up in the Northeast US in the fall which I am looking to attend.  But until then are there any boats down here near (or not so near) where I live that anyone owns or knows about?
