    From the first posting:

"At this point, they are prepared to take just about any offer. And, they are open to negotiating a payment schedule."

To learn more, I think you should talk to Jess Bray.

I've already got a boat (and Teleport is a bit small for my family of four), but if I didn't I'd probably be on my way to Prince Rupert.  A flight from Vancouver to Prince Rupert is a pretty simple and inexpensive matter.  I've done fieldwork in the area and it is just as David says, it really is spectacular.  Even with a "new" boat and a shakedown cruise, the Inside Passage offers a protected route back to Vancouver if you felt like keeping out of open water for the first bit.  Compared to where Teleport has already been, Prince Rupert is a metropolis.

H'mm. I suspect the good citizens of Prince Rupert would take exception to the suggestion that they are "uncivilised"! Prince Rupert is a major seaport, with road and rail links to the interior, there is an airport, and it is well served by BC Ferries and the float plane services. You're right, Dennis, it takes a little effort to get there; but once there, you are in the centre of the best cruising grounds on the planet, stretching hundreds of miles in either direction. Given that Teleport is a well-found boat, and there are good facilities in Prince Rupert to stock up on food and materials, I'm somewhat at a loss to understand why someone with more than an ounce of get-up-and-go hasn't bought her and got-up-and-gone.

As to why she was left there: Chris and Jess are running a successful photography business, and could only devote about two months each summer to cruising. This was as far south as they could reach in the time they had available.

I think their biggest obstacle to a sale is where they left the boat.  Were Teleport in Vancouver (airport, civilization), it is much more likely someone would get and take a great deal.  I have not followed them along the way.  Is there a reason they left the boat in such a remote location?

As far as I'm aware she's now Australian registered.

Even on a used boat, the government here still collects its taxes (5%PST + 7%GST in BC)  However, if you are a foreign citizen and remove the boat from Canada, then you shouldn't have to pay the taxes.  I can't remember how much time you have to remove the boat before you pay taxes, I have a vague memory of it being on the scale of one or maybe two months.  I'm not sure where Teleport is registered or if that changes matters.

If the boat is to stay in Canada, there would be sales tax on the price paid in the sale.

The actual amount charged will depend on the province in which the sale is to occur. Even if the boat is physically in BC, the sale could "probably" be executed elsewhere in Canada for convenience, provided the boat is registered federally and not provincially.

I am not an accountant, just a Canadian resident who has looked into buying a boat. The rates will vary, but shouldn't be above 15%.

Generally speaking, once a boat has paid a country's taxes, it is not required that it do so again.  I very much doubt that it would have even been possible to claim back the original taxes paid on Teleport, especially as she was a home build.  I should expect that the only taxes a new owner would have to pay would be in his/her home country when s/he finally arrived.  If the boat is being sold very cheaply, these taxes would generally be so small as not to be worth considering in the overall scheme of things.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. I suggest you try Jess Bray, directly. I think she is handling most of the correspondence these days.
