Rudder post - opinion on these photos.

    The green coloration is just copper salts on the surface. Scrape it, and you should find good shiny brass. More than that, I can't tell, from just looking at photos.

    If a qualified surveyor has examined the gland, and found no problems, then I think you have to accept that.

    Hey every/any body. 

    I'm posting here because y'all are a practical group that treat newbies like me well.

    I've got this old boat and crawling around in the lazarette snapped these photos of the rudder post.  Is that patina okay?  How about the goop around the nuts?

    Should I drop the rudder and inspect more?  My surveyor (I know, I know) didn't mention anything about it, and he took a pretty good look at the steering components.
