She's a lovely boat, isn't she?  And what a pretty name.  But would it be an act of vandalism, I ask myself.  Peregrine is a replica Loch Fyne Skiff, and doesn't look at all out of place with her junk rig.  More than a few luggers were converted to gaff ketch - you could say that was also vandalism.  And many people would regard junk rig as simply a fully-battened lugsail.

I remember seeing Guide Me sailing into Douarnenez, at one of the festivals, with Judy at the helm.  She is about 40ft LOA, but the bowsprit looked to be about 20ft long and the boomkin didn't look much shorter.  She sailed through the fleet with élan and éclat, with the children climbing all over and swinging off various ropes, and came to anchor just off the beach.  There was a spontaneous round of applause.  Judy told me she loves to be at the helm and would happily steer for hours and hours when crossing the Atlantic.  What a sailor!

There's another good looking schooner on ebay at the moment too:

"Barbican 33 Schooner twin masted Junk Rig"

Yes, it would convert very easily, despite the cultural vandalism!  I remember one that was rebuilt by a young couple, Jono and Judy Brickhill, in the 1970's, called Guide Me, and sailed around the North and South Atlantic Oceans, with their brood of kids, in the late 80s.  They are still cruising her.  I remember thinking that it looked like a lot of hard work to sail, but they seemed to have mastered the art of handling it.
