Hi Chris Gallienne, Francois Gavillon, Guy Marlow, Paul Fay, Gavin Daglish
As Maddy and I are in Brest we're of course happy to coordinate this as Ash suggested, and apologies for leaving it late as we were travelling to Brest The weather has gone dodgy so fingers crossed that it picks up. Whether or not we'll be able to sail will depend on how the weather goes in the meantime as we have a lot to do. I can't work as hard as I I used to as I am 'under orders' to take it easy following the stroke I had in December. So we'll just have to see how it goes.
Attendees:
Matt Waite has pulled out as he is having to return to Australia and has put Mariposa up for sale on the site in Plymouth. Details in another forum.
Paul Fay emailed me to say he's already in the Brest area and gave me his mobile number. Paul, can you please send it again? I read your email on my iPad to which it of course downloaded; then I zapped my iPad's email account to save some memory. Oops. Sorry, please re-send.
Guy Marlow lives in France and plans to attend, though without his boat. More info was in an email to Ash. Gary, maybe post it here too?
Francois Gavillon is a local member who keeps his boat in Brest; not junk rigged but he's a member and is thinking of junk rigging her. More info on the forum.
Gavin Daglish used to be JRA Chair and lives in France. Boat under renovation.
Chris Gallienne is our Treasurer and also our stand-in Webmaster. He is planning to sail over from Plymouth.
So it looks as if we will have two boats (Francois and Paul) and could have four (mine and Chris's). Or three!
Chris has just made the following post on the site: "Time to firm up a date to meet in Brest? I need to book some leave to cover time away. Best dates for me would be 12th, 13th or 14th June, but some flexibility - any other suggestions?"
Those dates would suit Maddy and I fine, giving us time to get organised (in theory) and time for me to make my next medical appointment back in the UK on June 19th. I was told it would be ages but there you go it isn't. Flight from Nantes booked, there and back in two days, ouch. On the other hand the weather looks settled for the end of this week and the beginning of the next. Francois, got a feel for this?
As to a venue, I suggest the Marina du Chateau. It's not so far up the river as Moulin Blanc, but it is a little more pricey. Perhaps Francois can see if they will do a deal for us? It's where we are and where Francois keeps his boat. There are some good cafes, bars and restaurants around. Bit of an uphill hike to the city and shops, but it keeps you fit. There's a good visitors' area - mostly alongside berths - so rafting up should be OK . Access is all weathers and tides. Excellent showers and loos.
That's my two cents worth.
I'll post this on the site too.
Cheers, Brian
