oi, that would be my name..
We're snug in a cyclone hole otherwise known as Mooloolaba River, anchored in front of the McMansions. Looks like Marcia has petered out before she got this far. Its been calm today when the forecast was for 40 kts.
We're lucky to be here, as we left Tin Can Bay, about 50 miles north of here, last weekend when the weather moderated a bit after 2 weeks of gales. Still a windward beat to get here but worth it. Had an exciting moment crossing Mooloolaba river bar - with an audience sitting on the rocks no less. We weren't 'really' close to rolling it, just tossed sideways about 10m (- this was Tuesday, before we knew about any cyclone). The book says its an all weather entrance but not really. This is an infinitely better anchorage than Tin Can thats for sure. But the 40 hours of rain has tested every deck fitting for leaks, I have some maintenance to do as its a little damp inside..
It's a little sobering to see Marcia has strafed places we anchored at only 3 or 4 weeks ago. One boat we heard about, also from Fremantle, following us down the coast, but only one session of favourable winds behind us has abandoned ship near Yeppoon. They were in Marcia's path. Nasty.
