Roy Denton, on behalf of the Committee, has asked me to write a HOF article about Jock.  I had hoped to do a HOF article on him earlier but felt I lacked sufficient material.  Jock did not respond to an email from me requesting an online interview.  Luckily I have both Blondie and Backdoor to Brazil aboard.  Combined with the info in Newsletter# 17 I should be able to put something together, though it won't have as much detail on his solo voyages as I'd like.  If anybody has any snippets of information, recollections etc, that may help, I'd appreciate an email at yachtarion@hotmail.com

PS:   Annie is going to write an obituary for Jock, and I will put together a HOF piece for mid 2015.  Anecdotes about Jock will be gratefully received.

No Sally and I are not related to Jock ----   he subjected us to a tough interview before allowing us to become  the current custodians of Ron Glas. Yes he was a fine man and gave us much help and advice during the  major refit to get Ron Glas back to sea, and subsequently in helping us understand the fine  tuning needed to sail Big Ron. the boat is now in better shape than for many years and ready for the adventures ahead. our tribute to Jock is to keep improving the ship and keep her sailing  TONY&SALLY.

I was truly saddened to hear that Jock had slipped his mooring.  I only met him a few times, but he was both a gentle man and a gentleman and I felt it was a great privilege to have known him.  It is good to know that Ron Glas is still ocean wandering, as she was designed to do.  It must have given him great pleasure to know that.

It seems like nearly all my heroes are gone now, but as David said, PJR is a fine memorial to two outstanding men and sailors.

There's a brief autobiography by Jock on page 4 of Newsletter 17, May 1988, when he took over as President after the death of Blondie Hasler.

You can read more about his sailing career in "Backdoor to Brazil", by Peter Pye, and in the biography "Blondie", by Ewan Southby Tailyour.

I send my condolences to Jock's family, though i never knew him personally, I have been aware of his  co-authorship of PJR along with Blonde, and also that he has been the President of JRA - i think from formation in 1979.

I am sad to hear of his passing.

As a relative newcomer, I am aware that Tony and Sally Summers  are the current owners of "Ron Glas", Jock's Junk which is shown on the cover of PJR, and suspect that they are related to Jock?

May I request a few more details of Jock's life, his family and maybe brief information of his last years, where he lived, how did he spend his time?  Did he still sail?

I add my thanks for the wealth of information available to us as a result of Jock's efforts.

    Ash

And so passses another of that generation of sailors to whom we all owe a great deal. Practical Junk Rig will continue, far into the future, as a very fitting memorial, both to Blondie and to Jock.

    Fair winds, Jock.
