The (Not-so) Great One is simply being overly modest :-)

Unless things have changed dramatically, the OCC is a lot larger.  The last I heard it had about 2,500 members.  No doubt David (TGO) will set us right.

Corey, you may want to take a look in Members' Area > Directories > Boat Location Maps and in Members' Area > Directories > membership List. The former is shows where some of our boats are, ie those who have mapped their positions on our Google maps, and the latter list all our members and offers search by country.

I wasn't initially sure whether Corey was commenting on there being so few junk rig boats, or on the number of members in the Junk Rig Association or on the numbers posting on the forums.  Assuming that the comment was about the Association, and subsequent comment appears to be about that, then the following may be pertinent.  It is an extract from the Committee Paper on Financial Management which is about to be put to the members for their approval at the AGM:

"The measure of success of the Association is the rate and quality of our exchange of information about Junk Rig. It is not whether in business terms the Association makes a profit or a loss. It is not the size of our assets. It is not the number of our members."

Hi Corey. Lesley aims to update the pie chart three months; the latest version can always be found on the site's Home Page. As a matter of interest some comparable online 'specialist' groups e.g. freedomyachts.org, the OCC (Ocean Cruising Club and the Amateur Yacht Research Society are I believe of a similar size. Does size matter?

That old saying about quality not quantity springs to mind!

In looking over the JRA magazine I find the pie chart of our numbers and locations.   I was surprised to see how small in numbers this forum is.  Also surprised how worldwide it is.  This summer I will look to the horizon for the rare and unique "western" junk rig.   That's assuming summer arrives in the northeast USA this year.  I have my doubts.
