Richard, those are good videos. I am quickly learning that a video can tell a much more effective story than just pictures, and for me it is interesting seeing something of your European world and the environment in which you are sailing, so different from our New Zealand coastal environment, of which I hope to soon be able to video.
Thanks! One thing to bear in mind is that I'm usually making videos when the situation is fairly relaxed and I can spare a hand to hold the camera, so you're not seeing the whole story or the whole environment. The inland Netherlands is quite an artificial environment, and I'm sure that's a big contrast to NZ. It's quite a contrast to other parts of Europe, such as the Baltic. I'd love to sail in NZ!
The quality of your videos is generally very good so I am wondering what camera you are using and which editing software you are working with?
I have a
Panasonic HX-WA30 as
recommended by Dylan Winter, a professional cameraman. I love it. Waterproof and shockproof. Good quality recordings, and very good sound recording. The GoPro has much better marketing, but it's not very good in my opinion.
I edit using iMovie, the software that comes free with Mac OS X. I have a small amount of professional video editing experience, and access to "pro" editing software, but iMovie is fine and convenient for this stuff. My main advice is to take plenty of footage and set aside plenty of time for editing, discarding most of it. It's mostly about the cuts and not much about the features of the software.
I try to tell a story with each video, so it's good to hear you're getting that impression.
I'm happy to help out with any video projects when I have time!
