    Those sails are quite wonderful - I wish I had the talent to do something similar on Fantail's sail.  The other truly splendid sail is that on Peregrine. Again, one gazes with envy.

    I think it indicates that junk rig sailors don't like to be boring, and are happy to take the path less trodden.

    None of the above..... I think it indicates a resourceful member who uses the materials he has to hand, the bests way he can! 

    If you had a similar sized piece of green material, you could have green on the stbd side and red to port, perhaps aiding collision avoidance :-)

    I   was going to make some alterations on the top panel of Vanharouvas sail when
    I found a piece of red nylon cloth, and I immediately thought of the red panel in the logo. To my sadness I discovered that I hadn't enough  cloth for the whole panel so I decided to use it anyway and here is the result. Now a question puzzles my mind; does the partly red sail panel illustrate some sort of lower membership, a junior member;a member far away from the inner circles, a candidate for membership or just a poor junk member?

    Rig progress is slow these days. The initial sailing went great, but I'm feeling like I have over a dozen boat projects to work on, and can't quite focus well enough to make good progress on any one of them. (Plus my life has non-boat-related demands)

    One big and long-deferred project is to build something to hold up the solar panels over my cockpit. And since I'm doing it, I want to do it right and make it work well with a full dodger/bimini or combination. Lots of thinking and some mockups on that one.

    Also my yards bend in use, and I found that somewhat alarming. When I tried to calculate how stiff/strong they were (independent of length) and compare them with aluminum pipe yards, I note that the failed yards on Fantail and Arion are slightly stronger than my main and slightly weaker than my mizzen. Now I find it even more alarming!

    Yes, I think you coloured panels are a brilliant advertisment for the junk rig, and I wish more would use it.

    It catches the eye, I certainly approve.

    I would also change to a fanned sail, traditional junks were mostly fanned, and it looks like the way things are developing.  But mainly as it looks prettier to my eye.

    (should we have a vote?)
