    They work great!

Glad to know they work well for you, looks like the same functionality of our plywood ones.

Just spent today ripping fibreglass off the mast, was epoxied late afternoon yesterday, but unfortunately there was dew last night and prevented it from curing properly. Have to fibreglass all over again... :(

That's a bit of a worry, Gary.  Badger's old-fashioned style ports never leaked a drop (although they did collect rain water and a cloth was sometimes required when opening them.)  We rarely used the side ones apart from one in the galley and one in the heads.  I don't know what sort of rubber your ports have.  We found the really soft neoprene worked best and fitted as large a section as we could so that we didn't have to screw them down too hard.  Doing that tends to distort even good quality portlights and might well damage extruded rather than cast sections.

You are building the boat I would have if I'd known about it way back when. She's looking good Gary.

    Thanks guys.
Re: hooded eyes, Annie, are as a result of a few rainfalls. There's a picture in Dave Tylers gallery showing a 37' Badger with similar hoods and I couldnt figure out why they had them. When it rained we found out why. Those Vetus portlights, which are basicly Beckson portlights which look like the ones on that 37 Badger, are supposed to be mounted only on vertical surfaces, Badgers' are canted back 15˚ and lets the water sit on the glass/rubber seal joint, which eventually seeps through. So all the portlights leaked when it rained. The hoods keep rain water off the portlights so solved the problem for now, but I dont know how its going to work with all that spray beating windward etc.

re: 2 months - I have no idea how rubbery that number is... we've already taken a tour of marina's and clubs in preparation on where to park it. Probably in the one place that actually welcomes liveaboards, a few km south of here.

You're making really good progress.  The mast looks wonderful.  I like the hooded-eyes, look, but I suspect that once you're on the water, you won't find the side ports let in too much heat.

    Two months! You're almost there!

I always wanted to build a Benford dory.  I don't think I will now, (built too many boats, time to go sailing) but it is fun watching you do it.  Very interesting photos.

Issue 61 due out in February...
Let's hope that Ashiki makes it onto the "Newly launched" page. Keep at it, Gary, she's looking good.
