Some of you might know that one of our members in China, John Kwong has been involved for a while in building traditional Chinese junks in China. These boats are now ready and through Chinese Traditional Sailing Association will be shipped to Europe to join Amsterdam 2020 Sail festival.

It would be fantastic if any of our members and /or boats could join them to possibly sail in company with newly launched traditional Chinese junks!

I have been in touch with Sail Amsterdam organisers, who currently are not registering small sailing boats for their official event (the tall ship entries are done by invitation through embassies and navy only) BUT they said:

Of course, anyone including members of the Junk Rig Association can come to Amsterdam around that time, but that will be on own keel, own cost, and outside of the SAIL Amsterdam 2020 organization.

Attached file and link gives some more information.

I so often hear from our members about their interest in traditional Chinese junks. This is the time to see them live for the first time outside China.

Be that volunteer who is willing to  organise  JR meet in Amsterdam this summer.  I am happy to give you a helping hand in contacting members etc.

Come to Amsterdam  12 - 16 August 2020 to sail with other junks!

Here are some photos of the Chinese boats that will be going to Sail Amsterdam.

Not to complicate things, but they are also planned to go to the Fête Maritime in Brest, Brittany, which is going on 10 July –16 July, 2020. Any members who want to go to that one??

All sampans, then - I thought there was going to be one of the big ones, Foochow pole junk or similar, which is a bit disappointing.

Aha! in the third photo, in particular, I'm seeing a sail of a very similar shape to the one I've drawn for Fanshi! So we're not too far adrift from the Chinese way of doing things.

    Bonjour

I have contacted the Brest2020 organisation to ask them if they are interested in a Junket around the "Pacific" animation. (This year the animations are organized around the oceans and the Mediterannean sea)

    I'm waiting for there answer.

I'll send them a mail to link the junket with the three Junk sampan.

I'll of course translate/forward the answer.
