Hey, it's Marine™, of course it is.

That's what I thought! But as you say it is 'marine'

Thanks everyone for your replies. I found some at 'thewetworks.co.uk' for £65 - still quite a lot I think! If I needed my whole yacht done I would have certainly investigated having them made.

    Hi Charlie,

a quick search on the internet showed that there are several foundries in your area that may be able to cast some blanks for you from the existing bases. "thebrassfoundry.co.uk" Is a small foundry that does mostly brass but could probably do aluminium for you. "investacast.com" does aluminium but seems to be a much larger operation that may not be as willing to help with a small job like yours.

I have used this approach both in England and the USA to get things I could not get any other way, including an 85 pound three part, fisherman style anchor I designed.

There may be more but I only looked in Cornwall and Devon.

    All the best, David.

    Charlie,

it may be worth looking for a local, small foundry that will cast some for you using the existing ones as a pattern. It could well be cheaper than the eighty seven pounds you have been quoted, and you could do the finishing yourself to save some cost.

    All the best, David.

The best advice for Charlie might be for someone to provide a drawing of something which can be fabricated cheaply. My only contribution is that I think that attaching it to the toe rail is still the best idea, and not to be tempted to go for the type of stanchion fitting which is just screwed to the deck.

    Try

    https://www.sl-yachting.com/

    They certainly supply them.

I have ordered fairleads from them in the past and they were very efficient.

However, I seem to remember that the price was eye watering but it might be worth checking how it compares with Force 4.

Marine Bazaar in Plymouth deals with miscellaneous second hand items.  They are very helpful and always worth a call.

I have a JR Freedom 30 that has toerail mounted stanchion posts which a couple of bases I need to replace - I think I found some at Force 4 at £87 each plus P&P! Does anyone know where  can get some second hand ones - tried ebay & gumtree for the past couple of weeks but nothing? Or new ones at a reasonable price?
