If the JRA did acquire publishing rights, it might consider a soft cover, spiral bound version published by an on-demand book printer. They lie flat when open.
Then there could be a digital version. Cheap to produce. Carry on your iPad etc. It would be easy to attach supplements and update them.
I agree with the above buying rights proposal, or at least proposing to Jay Benford to add another appendix re cambered sails. The spiral bound format is a good idea too, the book is already at reference book price (which is fair), may as well make it the best it can be. But you wouldn't want the ebook, inferior as it would be, to cannibalise hard copy sales and a pdf file means easily copied & pirated.
