Thanks for the replies.   I am going to do webbing for both lifts but I was wondering more about the space between the stowed sail and the mast.  My sail cover had an extra piece of material that I tried placing in that area but it still caused small holes.  I also take the strain off the stowed sail in the forward lift by lifting it up a touch with the halyard.   Maybe a piece of 3/8" foam pad...?

On the last rigs, for Frøken Sørensen and Ingeborg I have used 50mm webbing in the mast lift. They seem to be kinder to the sail than rope only.

Enclose the mast lift in PVC hose.

Hello all.  What do you all do to protect the sail against chafe near the forward lift when the sail is furled and stowed under a cover?  I've noticed the old poly-tarp sail and sail-cover have little holes in that area where it come in contact with the mast.  I have new dacron sails and I want to guard against this.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks
