From a look at the member database it seems there's quite a few JRA members with Freedom rigs that intend to convert to junk rigs, but only Brian Kerslake has actually gone forward with a junk rig done by Robin Blain.

Off the top of my head I can think of:
    Alanouwoly, Steve and Sally Peake,
Flutterby, Meps Schulte and Barry Stellrecht,
    Pelican, Roy Denton

Georg Warnecke is the man to ask, as he has been compiling a list of designs that have been converted to JR.

I've just sent Brian an email to see if he can offer any insight!

Try entering 'Freedom' in the internal search box on the Member's Area page. You'll get lots of hits!

I'm looking at a boat right now that has a cat ketch rig. The masts are unstayed, it looks a lot like a junk with the sails down... Does anyone know much about these? How do they compare to a junk? Are they as manageable and safe for a shorthanded crew?

If I did want to change it over to a junk, is it as easy as it looks like it might be?
