When I bought Jasmine she came with a WindPilot Pacific wind-vane self steering system.
I've now successfully incorporated a Raymarine ST1000 electronic tiller pilot to that self-steering set up.
The tiller pilot is mounted on a custom bracket at the pushpit connecting to a pin on the wind-vane pendulum.
This way the electronic tiller pilot does the work of the wind-vane blade whereas the water forces on the wind-vane rudder work the tiller via control lines.
Less force and energy is thus required than if the Raymarine ST1000 were to be connected direct to the tiller.
Got it all hooked up and working while motoring in the harbour and will fine tune its functionality and efficiency while under sail during my next visit to Jasmine.
With the new arrangement and using minimal electric power, Jasmine should be able to hold a compass course without me having to be on the tiller, even while motoring or in very light wind.
