    Bonsoir Jacques,

if you don't paint the aluminium mast and battens, it will stain the sail. That's all. It is a decision of aestetics, not function. I did not paint my Ilvy's sail, and it works fine. Maybe with a new sail in the future I would paint it, but it is not a must.

    Cheers

    Paul

Hello Jacques, good to see your progress !

For the mast wedges, PJR says 0.1D, for your mast it's approximatively 2cm.

I don't know for the aluminium, I think it's a lot simpler to let the pole bare. Painting it would be nicer, but a lot of work.

    Hello,

    December 15th: Here we go!

Drilling the deck (20mm drill bit) ( photo enclosed )

    Questions :

    • The mast is 18 cm in diameter, how many centimeters should I add for wedging?
    • Painting the Aluminum mast: Yes or No ?
    • If Yes :  What paint should I use after a primer ?  epoxy, oil-based, acrylic, or alkyd-based?  , Spray ?

    Nice evening

    Jacques

    Hello,

Step N° 1 : Next week , I recovered the alu street lamp ( photo 1 ). Is it necessary to paint  ? if so with what paint ?

Step N°2 : Mast sole Ok ( photo 2 ) just test no glue, no "Omega" reinforcement

    Step N° 3 : fabric fund  : Dralon/teflon 240gr/m2 - in 320cm ( Destocking, good price)

    Next step : Mast step

    Have à good day

    Jacques

    Jacques,

did you just scale the measures to fit Arne's design for your Sangria? Looks okay on a first glimpse.

    Paul

    Yes

    Good!

That was exactly the idea with making those master sailplans....

    Arne,

Hoping you will be better soon

Jacques, not a silly question! But the answer is a very clear No. A bermudan mast is not designed to and not able to take the bending loads of an unstayed mast.

    Arne & Paul

Enclosed sheet 3 . What do you think about cambered panels ?

    Nice evening
