Hello Peter, David Tyler is probably the person to best advise on this but I can share my experience of changing the rake on Footprints' mast. To change my vertical mast to 3 degrees forward rake I moved the mast step back 80mm and as a result needed to change the forward face of the mast partners to keep the mast centralised within the partners. It was easy for me to do this because the mast at the point where it passes through the deck is square and the partners hole is a square shape and also constructed from timber. So really all I had to do was slope that forward face of the partners forward to keep the mast central and to still allow the mast wedges to sit correctly in the space as per the recommendations in PJR. I made up a full size mock up of the mast shape from step to just through the deck so I could see things in 3D rather than having to try and figure it all out in my head. Thankfully it all worked out well, I have done some hard sailing since and nothing has moved, and the mast has shown no sign of falling over yet!
