Well, Ash and I attended the start of the 2014 Jester Challenge, standing below the RWYC balcony in Queen Anne's Battery as Ewen Southby-Tailyour fired the ritual shotgun-filled-with-talc at precisely 13:00. The mounting excitement as the half-dozen or so competitor boats present remained resolutely at their pontoon berths was almost unbearable. Then we went home.
Ho hum. Met the improbably nice veteran of many Jester/OSTAR races, Bill Churchouse, anyway, so not entirely anticlimactic. I expect they'll all start to drift westward tomorrow in no breeze whatsoever....
Edit: Ash and I were accosted by a fully booted and suited skipper of one of the local Dragon fleet, lamenting the loss of his backstay at anchor in last nights blow. Lost no time in recommending conversion to junk rig. Nasty things, stays. He seemed quite interested.
