YING TONG NEWBRIDGE COROMANDEL
PARTIALLY COMPLETED RESTORATION
I am the proud possessor of Coromandel Ying Tong, Hull no. 83/40 built 1983, Sail no. 61, formerly SSR reg. 00072 rescued from the Tollesbury marshes and transported to my home in Barcaldine near Oban (W. Coast of Scotland on shore of Loch Creran). I've been doing a part-time Roger Taylor ever since. So far I've scraped off the accumulated antifoul, primed hull ready for new antifoul, primed the topsides ready for topcoat, stripped out interior and headlining, removed horrible heads and plugged seacock holes. Removed existing cross-over drains and raised cockpit floor so it drains out of stern through a BIG tube. I also reinforced the outboard bracket and filled the dangerous void in the stern bulkhead with 2 part foam - for flotation, strength and insulation. Have twin cylinder MARINER 8HP for motive power - tatty looking but it's a good 'un and provides ample power for the boat. Replaced windows with 8mm polycarbonate (still have the old ones which could be re-fitted). Built a new doghouse. Renewed hatch, washboards etc. Started to reconfigure internal layout. Removed seat tops and replaced with m/ply and w/t hatches ready to fit.. Upholstery, mast, rig, sail, lights all present, plus autopilot, anchor, warps etc. , cooker, crockery & cutlery etc. Boat is on a TRAILER - four wheeler and can be used to launch the boat. I used it on the road behind a Transit van for short distance though it is presently unbraked. The guy I bought it from had it for his Hurley 22 (river Trent -freshwater only) and towed it all over the place.
So far so good, but I am 78 this year and after a fall am now semi-disabled - waiting for a knee replacement - and find work on the boat too much for me. So we are talking about an unfinished project that is taking up a lot of space in my garage and needs to go asap. Actually the hard graft has pretty well been done - the interesting bits are now happening!
I don't want much for her - say around £600 ono for the boat & trailer and all the bits, including the engine. It all has to go as one lot. I need my workshop back!
Best wishes,
