An absolutely beautiful 30 footer

If I weren't in the middle of building myself a boat, I'd be incredibly tempted by this boat.  The link was sent to me by an non-member (who has no debit/credit card, so is finding it difficult to join the JRA).

Although not a commodious boat, this would be perfect for someone of simple tastes who really appreciates a beautiful wooden boat.  I really hope someone buys her soon so that she can enrich somebody's life.  And that she sells to a member so that we can keep in touch with her adventures.

Oh, wow! What a gem! If only I weren't also an "ancient one" myself, I might be tempted to jump on a plane to Anacortes.

Thanks for sharing this, Annie.  It makes me drool.  Slow to windward in the open sea for sure but unbelievably solid.  Make a great tradewind voyager for someone like Edward Allcard who is happy at sea and doesn't give a damn about fast passages, content to use the winds, currents and seasons to advantage along the classic voyaging routes.  If I was younger and fit I'd rush over there and snap it up.  The boat had character by the wheelbarrow-full!

The 30-foot Ocean Bird was originally a gaff-cutter.  Gimme junk-schooner any day before that!  Nine years earlier, Farrell had built the 36-foot staysail-schooner Wind Song.  He said of her, "she was a wonderful sea-boat.  In a following sea, you never had to even touch the tiller, she would just go on her own".  So if this junk-schooner Ocean Bird can do that - well, she's got everything for deep-water.  I already have my own boat, Solitaire - otherwise, I would buy this little glory of a boat in a second!!!

What about this John Wellsford design, currently for sale in Whangaparaoa.

Take off that ugly solid dodger, and she be a real beauty.

    Only 1.1M draft too.
